Book 1 of the 5-Part EDI Education Series EDI can and is difficult for the uninitiated to read. It is a "digital" representation of a human-readable document, like a purchase order for example. The series ended prematurely, I had a problem with that so I fixed it by writing the next episode that spans many years in the life of the colony. Marriage, birth, death, friends become enemies and enemies become friends.

I have always been fascinated by the Star Trek: Voyager episode, The 37s. This is where they initially find a 1936 Ford pickup truck floating in space. The gas and the rust create breadcrumbs to the planet, where they find a propeller airplane emitting an S-O-S. They figure out where it came from and find people in a cold sleep, suspended animation. One of them is Amelia Earhart. We all know Voyager made it home with the assistance of a time traveling Admiral Janeway, but the development of the Quantum Slipstream drive took a few more decades. Now that it is installed in the USS Voyager-A, Admiral Janeway takes it back where her adventure began, the Delta quadrant. Along the way she meets up with the Kazon, and stops to visit with Nelix and the Talaxian colony. But ultimately, her goal is to make it to that planet, the planet with her friend, Amelia Earhart. Join the crew of Voyager-A, old and new, on this journey into their history, their journey into their future.

Seriously, the hardest thing for someone to teach a new Scout when cooking is a stove, or the fire, or on charcoal for that matter is that there are a lot more levels of heat than OFF and MAX. Cooking over low or medium heat is better and safer for the meal in some respects than cooking on a blast furnace. It saves propane too! Plan for the extra time, you will be rewarded when you eat. Don’t get me wrong, there are times that a blazing hot surface is what is needed; the steak to get that perfect seer for example. So pick this up and bring it to your next troop meeting. Let the Scouts look it over and see if there is anything they would like to try out for the first time. You, AND THEY, will be surprised as to how easy and how good some of these recipes really are, especially in the woods!!

You found this book to help you understand just a little about the program, and the gear, you need to get started. Yes, you will need to buy some camping gear but you can do it affordably. The information contained in this book will aid you in making an informed decision.

This is designed to aid a new backpacker in creating a tasty menu on the trail. Foods should require no refrigeration, their weight needs to be minimal, and they should bring big flavor. This book is more of a guide for the new backpacker, it is not a recipe collection because we all eat different, like different things, and our budgets span a rather large range. Personal cooking, is, well, personal. There are things you can eat every day that others may not want once. But personal cooking in the woods, on a trail for a week, needs to be nutritious, tasty, unique, and easy. It also needs to have minimal cleanup. So, hike the trail with me to learn the skill - or formula - of personal backcountry cooking, and discover the creativity within yourself to be a five-star trail chef, at least in your own mind.
