I have always been fascinated by the Star Trek: Voyager episode, The 37s. This is where they initially find a 1936 Ford pickup truck floating in space. The gas and the rust create breadcrumbs to the planet, where they find a propeller airplane emitting an S-O-S. They figure out where it came from and find people in a cold sleep, suspended animation. A thru-hike is a very long-distance hike. For example, the Appalachian Trail runs from Georgia to Maine to the tune of about 2,100 miles.
